So we are now 2 for 2 with getting tickets because my disabled wife needs to visit her specialist in Philly. The first time, we were parked in a handicapped spot but because of some weird "loading zone" time we got nailed. This time because the doctor ran an hour late we got hit with $36. Not too bad, but still pisses me off. I can't tell you how many cops and PPA folks we have talked to over the years that said, "Look technically you only have an extra hour, but because you have a ramp-van we let it go." Well, not tonight they didn't. We could have parked at the hospital parking 4 blocks away, next time we will just tolerate the cold. Ugh

Wow — I'm surprised they'd bother to issue a $36 ticket to a rampvan with a disabled plate. Especially in this weather. I'm sorry, man! At least it's not a multi-hundred-dollar California parking ticket.

Meanwhile, in my hometown up here in Canada, parking enforcement took a charitable approach to ticketing over the Christmas season. If you happened to get a ticket and weren't a repeat offender with outstanding tickets pending, rather then issue you a citation for $XXX you'd return to your car to find a little red envelope under your wiper blade requesting that, in the spirit of the season, you make a charitable donation to ________ charity rather then pay parking fines.

How do you not have the right to park in the handicap spot? Do they just ignore the placard or something?

Kinja'd!!!

Also I guess this show is a total lie.

On certain streets during certain times there are truck loading zones that override the handicapped spot.

That sounds dumb, but Freight > disabled people who might need help I guess. I've never heard of that anywhere where I live down here. It must be because space is a premium in Sunny Philedelphia.

That really sucks, and frankly is a load of bs. I live outside the city in lower merion and luckily have never gotten one of those. I don't know how the person issuing the ticket to a ramp-van in a handicap spot can not feel like complete shit about what they're doing, especially with the weather this week.

"Person issuing the ticket"...PPA doesn't hire "people" they employ soulless robot drones that look like people.

My dad and I were in Philly once and we parked with a meter and walked over to the Maritime Museum and had a fun time checking out the U.S.S Olympic until we realized that our parking meter ran out of time 20 minuets ago. We ran back and got there just as the meter maid was writing the ticket. She stopped writing the ticket and made us sign a form of sorts. Apparently if you come as the ticket is being printed then they have to nullify it. It was a good experience with parking in Philly. Sorry to hear about yours. My cousins live in Havertown so I'm up there a few times a year.

Seriously? I think my head just exploded. I once got a parking ticket waiting in traffic here in London.

Here in Montreal we have a mobile app that allows you to top up your meter remotely, once you've gone through the trouble of setting up your account. You can also refill your meter from any street-side machine in the same parking zone, so you don't have to walk all the way back to your car from the doctor/restaurant/meeting - just pick the closest machine, which might save you 10 minutes or more.

Better luck next time!
